Poet’s Night
The moon had come about
With my darling, I set out
To the nearest coffee shop
Overwhelmed by the crowd
Wasn’t sure I heard it right
A gathering of clever minds
The waiter beckoned at us
This was truly Poet’s Night
Come, come take a seat
Take a pamphlet and read
The artist will be out soon
Have something to eat
A quick gander and I knew
That love was on the menu
Typical, yet an audience favourite
Hopeful his take might be new
The young lad came out
Dashing, with a witty frown
And that famous half smile
To narrate the tale out loud
I followed the rainbow
There was no pot of gold
Just an overdue parking ticket
Left on the side of the road
How had I ventured here
So lonely, yet without fear
Why did logic elude me
Was I a victim of my peers
Had I succumbed to it
That feeling gone amiss
The tricky vixen of desire
Hath left me naked of bliss
Why do I struggle then
To control this pretence
That I am alright
In this, there is no sense
And it dawned, so bright
To my starry, starry eyes
Full of silent tears
That love is always blind
There is no happy ending
Just a quest, forever searching
A temporary fix for a heart
Always in need of mending.
